I could not be happier to have one of my favorite influencers back for another interview! Mary, AKA, Glitzy Fritzy is back! If you follow her on social media, you know why she is so beloved. Mary is one of the most down to earth, kind, refreshing, what you see is what you get people around. And she is hysterical! I started following Mary several years ago and always enjoy her presentations. I feel truly blessed to know her.
Mary most recently released an eyeshadow palette in collaboration with Sydney Grace. To celebrate their collaboration, I am also publishing an interview this month with one of the owners of Sydney Grace, Laura!

I would be remiss if I didn’t begin this interview with discussion regarding your most recent collaboration with one of my favorite companies – Sydney Grace. This follows your highly successful collaboration with Sigma. You worked with Sydney Grace to create the most beautiful eyeshadow palette! How did the collaboration come about?
I’m told by Sydney Grace that it would have come about “later” but I truly owe the timing of the collaboration to the Fritzy FAM-ily. I learned that Heather & Laura (owners of Sydney Grace) had already decided that they would like to ask me to do a collaboration palette with them after their current project commitments where complete.
One day, I published a “Sydney Grace Palette Video” on my YouTube channel with a few looks and noticed that in the comment section a few of the Fritzy FAM-ily were talking about how they wanted a Sydney Grace “Glitzy Fritzy palette”. I laughed it off and thanked them for what I thought were a few very nice compliments. It didn’t stop there though. Pretty soon the Fritzy FAM-ily were talking amongst themselves and the next thing I knew several of them wrote to Sydney Grace asking for the collaboration! It was at that point that Heather & Laura said to themselves… “We need to push this up to the front and do it now”. That’s “Mary Speak” of course, but it’s the gist of what I was told. So, you see, the Fritzy FAM-ily was the catalyst for how this came about.
Why did this project mean so much to you?
Well, there are so many reasons but the most important one is because I asked the Lord for this (according to His will) 3 years ago. Seeing it come to fruition means everything to me as a believer! This is the kind of thing that happens to YOUNGER people with a MUCH MORE notable presence, not a 61-year-old YouTuber with a smaller audience. I don’t take that lightly and if it helps kick down the door that has kept mature people hidden away like they don’t matter…it feels important!
What was the most rewarding part of this collaboration? (Aside from having your palette sell out within 10 days.)
Holding the actual finished palette in my hand and then seeing everyone’s response to it. Thankful Dance Party!
What was the most challenging part of this collaboration?
You might think it would be getting my wants communicated properly to Sydney Grace, right? After all, we were never physically together and images, devices, etc. can misrepresent colors. That really wasn’t the challenge for me personally.
In my reveal video, I explained how I had already designed the palette in image form 3 years ago. I had already created the colors, finishes, layout, names, and palette design right down to the font. I even went a step further and mixed eyeshadows and sent them to Sydney Grace as a crude mockup palette so Heather could see and touch it. I was just waiting in faith.
No, the challenging part for me was just getting out of my own way and stop letting fear rule! I had to stop listening to that evil voice telling me I couldn’t, shouldn’t, wouldn’t do it and just accept the blessing I’d been given! Anything else would be like looking at God and saying, “I don’t have faith you can lift me up and I don’t believe you can do this”. Can you imagine? Telling God, who created the world and all its colors that I don’t believe He can help me with an eyeshadow palette? Wow! Just thinking about that is like a kick in the gut!
In your last interview we discussed the potential for a doing a collaboration using foundation and concealer. Is this still something you would like to pursue? Is there another type of collaboration you are hoping to pursue?
No, I don’t think I’d like to do foundation and concealer anymore. There are so many great ones out there already by companies that really know what they are doing, and foundation and concealer aren’t really “inspirational” kinds of products so I really don’t feel like I would or should do anything like that.
I wouldn’t mind a “Glitzy Fritzy Essential Makeup Palette”. It would be a neutral powder eye/face palette that contained a quick everyday eye look, bronzer, contour, blush, brow and a tinted lip balm for those days you just really need to work quick or travel light!
To what do you attribute your palettes success?
- The Lord for sure! Without His favor and guidance, I would not even WANT it, let alone have it!
- My amazing Fritzy FAM-ily who always show up for me and jump tall buildings in a single bound.
- Sydney Grace’s amazing skillset and formula. These are truly amazing humble honorable ladies who are not only a dream to work with but make you feel like YOU are! Who could ask for anything more?
We saw the passing of one of our favorite people, Mel Thompson, at the age of 35 on Sunday,a September 26, 2021. You and Mel were very close. What were the best things Mel brought to your friendship? In what ways do you bring her spirit into your channel?
I wasn’t expecting to be asked that one. I’m not going to lie I have a lump in my throat! Don’t worry this mascara I’m testing is AMAZING!
What did she bring to our friendship? I had a different relationship with her than you might imagine. I will say that she and I talked in the mornings and maybe 2% of our relationship was spent talking about YouTube or makeup. Mel was family. She was beautiful on the outside, but she was 100 times more beautiful on the inside. I know what she meant to the YouTube Beauty Community, so I TRY to keep her memory alive on my channel and don’t shy away from mentioning her because I never want anybody to forget that beautiful soul. It was my privilege to know and love her. I like to picture her painlessly painting in Heaven and eating as much bread, steak, and mint chocolate chip as she wants! Then I can smile.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I used to love to cook from scratch. However, I just can’t cash those checks anymore. Except for Thanksgiving, those days are pretty much gone now. In my head I’m still leaping and dancing but many things I once loved I can’t physically do anymore. But Makeup? Yes, I can still play with that and I’m grateful to have lovely people to share it with.
If you could have one wish fulfilled, what would it be and why?
I feel like I’m giving a Miss America answer here but seriously…good health and content happiness. Without those two things how can you really enjoy anything else?
If you could host a dinner party and invite five people, living or dead, who would you invite and why?
This really is easy. Dinner with all the people in my family who’ve passed. A chance to say what I didn’t say. Laugh and ask the things I thought I’d have more time for OR never had the opportunity to ask at all:
1. My Daddy
2. My Mother-in-Law
3 & 4. My Grandma & PapaM
5. Grandma Mary (who I was named for)
Do you feel beauty companies have improved in their inclusion of women over 50? If so, how?
I think we are headed in a good direction and I’m proof of that aren’t I? I mean I’m 61 AND I have a “micro” channel on YouTube & I’ve landed two collaborations with reputable companies in the last 3 years. Companies that reached out to me, not the other way around! I think that is saying something. So, I personally think things are looking up. Older influencers are now also being given opportunities. I love that and I hope that these collaborations will open the door for more people in the mature demographic. Your vote on this opportunity matters! Support what you want to see with your dollars!
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
Hopefully navigating some sort of RV for my ShyGuy. Maybe even taking the Fritzy FAM-ily along for the ride! I want to travel and see more than my backyard.
Skincare is critical to having beautiful skin. What are the top skincare items you recommend for women over 50 and why?
I don’t want to push specific brands or products here because those change all the time. As a generalized recommendation my thoughts are to ensure you protect your skin from harmful light spectrums so use a good sunscreen. Also ensure you exfoliate and get that cellular turnover happening. FEED your skin…serums for collagen, vitamins and don’t forget that all important hydration…whether it’s oils or creams just slather it on!
